Eco friendly gift ideas
Let's be honest - who here has at some point given a half-arsed gift they bought just for the sake of buying it, knowing it's probably destined for landfill? I totally have. BUT not this time sonny jim. As well as being totally GORGEOUS, these items are all eco friendly. The season of joy just got a whole lot more joyful.
PINEAPPLE LEATHER BAG, £125, SmithMattias
A new, plant-based, sustainable textile has been invented to rival both leather and pleather: Pinatex. Made from pineapples, this durable material has a slightly crinkled effect that works marvellously to create textured bags, shoes and purses. Praise the lord! I want them all. Now. Particularly this SmithMattias backpack, £125.
SLOGAN T-SHIRT, £24.90, Thought
Um question.. who doesn't love a slogan tee? Nobody. And this organic 100% cotton jersey number from the good people at Thought is particularly apt.
PURE SOAP, £3, Mangle & Wringer
Cold-processed soap might not seem particularly exciting, but Mangle & Wringer package their simple, environmentally friendly cleaning products SO beautifully you won’t want to keep them in the cupboard. This soap is made by hand from 100% coconut oil and absolutely does not contain any nasty stuff like detergent, dye, phosphates or perfumes.
GLITTER, £3.50, Eco Glitter Fun
A fabulous eco stocking filler: this magical dust is biodegradable, cruelty free and vegan friendly. I want ALL the colours.
NECKLACE, £28, Just Trade
I met the founder of this Peckham based brand at an ethical fashion event and now LOVE and want everything they make. Just Trade works with women in the developing world to combine traditional craft with contemporary fashion with rather lovely results.
BEESWAX CANDLES, £12, The Future Kept
Cheap candles are usually made from paraffin but these environmentally sound alternatives are made from Pure English beeswax and have a deliciously subtle honey scent. AND 50 % of the wax was produced by London bees. Sweet!
